On several summer holidays I have been able to visit Greek islands and find the 'old Greece' hidden behind the beach resorts. Here the old way of life continues. I was pleased to find old olive trees with sheep and goats grazing. The gnarled olive trees were such wonderful shapes and cast deep shadows making a contrast of light and shade in the baking summer sun. On each occasion I did a number of sketches and took lots of photographs. Once back at my accommodation I was able to paint my sketches and try and catch the interest of the moment.
