I took photographs and sketched these lilies while visiting a garden with the Open Gardens Scheme.
This painting has been done directly onto stretched silk using water based gutta as a resist. The silk dye is added in layers. Once complete the painting is rolled in old newspaper like and rolled again into a snail shape and secured with tape. The whole is covered with foil placed in a pressure cooker and steamed for one hour until the dye has been fixed. Once fixed the painting is removed from the paper, washed, ironed and stretched nd mounted. The silk fix dyes used give a particularly bright and luminous colours.
