Acrylic on board. 24 by 18 ins (62 by 46 cm).
When travelling about the countryside I try to have both a sketch book, and pen and camera to hand so that should I pass by something of interest I can stop to enjoy it, take photographs, do sketches and make notes so that at a later date in my studio I can paint my pictures. Poppies seem to invite attention and I love their vibrancy. This painting is one of a series I did after stopping in a lane in Buckinghamshire. The division of space with a small wood, a larger field of ripening wheat and the poppies seemed to invite me to paint!
