Thump of the Incoming Tide

This painting was made from sketches and photographs taken by the rocks near Carbis Bay near St ives in Cornwall. There is a wonderful walk along the coast footpath between Lelant and Carbis Bay and St Ives. Sometimes it is possible to walk part of the way on the sand, but on this occasion the incoming tide was already crashing into the cliffs and sending up momentary white water curtains of froth and foam. In my painting I have tried to get the movement of the sea against the shadowed rocks.
