I spent a marvellous week in October with four painting friends in a farmhouse at Carne on the southern coast of Cornwall. I had the use of a four bedroom traditional Cornish farmhouse. It was still just about warm enough to swim in the sea - if one was brave! The stay came as a result of some battering - a painting in exchange for a week's holiday! (The sweep of the bay also came from sketches made on this trip). Below the farmhouse was a two mile stretch of sand. Great Atlantic rollers came sweeping into the bay. Every low tide exposed large areas of wet sand. The sky could be seen double, billowing clouds and blue sky above, billowing clouds and blue sky on the wet sand. Riders on horseback, couples hand in hand, locals with their dogs and excited artists all tramped the beach.
