Kynance Cove on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall provides ongoing inspiration for me at all times of the year. Here the dark green and red Serpentine rocks jut into the sea, there are deep inlets and many outlying outcrops of rock which cause many cross currents to collide. When it is windy or the weather is rough it is the most spectacular place to wave watch. Against the might of the sea one feels extremely insignificant and small. This painting is one of a number that I did after standing on the cliff tops at Kynance Cove. The scene was made more dramatic by the sun in the west which lit the foaming waves with a silver/gold light and threw areas of rock into deep shadow. There was a big sea and the waves churned crashed and roared. In my painting I have tried to catch these moments.
