During the spring I was able to visit Coverack on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. Here there is a tiny harbour where small colourful fishing boats are based. I spent a morning sketching in the sun. The interest for me was the bright primary colours of the boats and the strong shadows, which were almost as strong in tone as the boats themselves. The boats, ropes, buoys and shadows all mesh together to give strong visual imagery. I have used collage rather than painting to give a more three-dimensional feel to the piece.
