Fred’s last love

Fred is a rather battered fishing boat. This collage and mixed media piece came after a visit to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast (The café on the beach there does good fish and chips).

As I watched a small fishing boat was winched up out of the water and over the pebble beach by a metal cable attached to a winch. The boat was rolled over wooden poles which were moved by the fishermen as the boat moved slowly out of the water and up the beach. I did a very minimal sketch at the time as neither the boat or the men stayed still. In the collage I wanted to get a 3D effect and to portray the interlocking shapes. I was interested in the thrust and counter thrust and the tension of men and boat.
