Acrylic and oil pastel on paper
This large painting was painted flat on the lawn. It was built up in layers, with the paint left to dry between each application of paint. I used paint dipped brooms to build the movement of the waves. Sometimes the paint was very wet at others almost dry.
The inspiration to begin came Turners late paintings in the Tate Britain, but mostly the image came out of my head. Overdrawing in oil pastel has been used to give definition and lift to the lighter areas where the sun is bursting from behind the clouds.
