I live in the pretty village of Aldbury in the Chilterns. Above the village is Ashridge, an area of National Trust woodland. Every spring the woodland floor is covered with a carpet of bluebells. There is a heady scent of the flowers, the citrus green of new beech leaves opening on the beech trees and paths leading through bluebells. It is like a colour feast.
Wherever I go I take my sketch book so that if something inspires me I can do a quick sketch and write notes to myself for later studio reference.
My bluebell paintings are me trying to catch this brief moment of spring.
