Acrylic on canvas. 30 x 24in
While down in Cornwall on the Lizard peninsula on one of my many trips to Cornwall I was in Mullion. Here a tiny harbour is wedged between tall dark granite cliffs. The harbour faces due west and the waves crashing against the rocks are often large and spectacular. One can stand on the harbour wall and get really close to the waves, which is always exciting. Turquoise waves crashing on a dark shore is one of a number of paintings that I did from my sketchbook after visiting. I have tried to capture the movement and energy of the waves by repeatedly splashing and tipping wet paint onto the canvas and leaving it to dry before adding further layers.
